True story: My car caught on fire a few months back. My insurance company deemed it a total loss and offered me LESS THAN HALF of the Kelley Blue Book value. Autumn went to bat for me and dealt with the ineptitude of my insurance company like no other. I received a six page report, along with the 30 photos they took. The appraised stated value was not only fair and closer to the KBB value--but it was based on actually going to look at the vehicle, assessing the condition, as well as an in depth local market analysis...all of which my insurance company failed to do in conjuring up their initial insulting settlement sum. Let's face it, insurance companies do not care about you or what trauma and tragedies you endure and pay them to tend to...they only care about the bottom line and getting you off their backs and quickly and cheaply as possible. Period. I must admit, I was a bit weary of getting my own appraiser to deal with my insurance company.
