Pre-Purchase Inspection Client Testimonial
Jason,
Thank you for facilitating the fast appraisal and your personal assistance in the evaluation of the 1976 orange Firebird. I've been looking for a Carousel Red base model '76 Firebird or Medium Orange '76 Camaro in good to excellent condition for several years. Wouldn't you know my ebay alert would go off just before Christmas? Of course I was also preparing for a vacation out of state to visit my Grandmother who doesn't have a computer. The bidding ended on Christmas eve. I was able to find a relative with web access on Christmas day, but unfortunately the reserve has been met and the Firebird was gone. I sent the seller a note that I would be interested in discussing it if the deal fell through. My luck changed when I got a call that night saying the successful bidder had backed out. Luckily, I took printouts of an Auto Appraise advertisement I saw in Hemmings with me. After leaving a message late on December 25th your office called the next day and you were swinging into action by that afternoon. You arranged for a inspector to travel to Toronto to evaluate the car within 48 hours and you gave me an initial verbal report on Saturday, December 29th, 2007.
The Firebird was advertised to be in "beautiful condition" with an "almost perfect" body, a bottom that's "just as nice" and a "very respectable" interior. Your retired bodyman/inspector didn't see it that way. Instead he noted dents in every panel as well as gouges and a dent on the drop rail that would require a large amount of hours to correct. The hood, lower blow ins and one wheel arch were found to be repainted, the bumper panels were severely cracked, a wheel was bent and a foot well was dented from underneath. The interior was in need of a complete restoration.
I was optimistic that your initial report was overly critical and that you may have misunderstood that I wanted a Concours car while I'm really only looking for a cruise night ride. When the 190 pictures came through on January 3rd, I saw for myself that you listened and captured all of my concerns in the written evaluation. As you report states, the vehicle is best described as one notch below a daily driver.
Thanks again for providing such a thorough appraisal during the Christmas holidays. If it weren't for your services, I would have worried throughout my vacation about the car being sold before I could personally inspect it. As it turned out the car wasn't what I expected, so you also saved me the time and expense of traveling to Canada from Maryland. I'm so satisfied with your services that next time I find a car on the internet I will not consider trying to inspect it myself. You'll be the first person I call. I only have one question left: is that you pictured on the website?
