I have been in the market for a collector car for about 3 years and like many have been using the internet to help me locate the right car. I finally found what I thought might be my car, yet it was across the country from where I live. I was not comfortable buying a car without looking at it myself or with my local expert. I looked into airfare, hotel, and car rental plus taking vacation time off from work on very short notice. The cost to make these arrangements were ultimately raising the cost of my dream car, not to mention the time it would require and this car might sell in the planning and travel process. I researched my options and conducted phone interviews and obtained quotes for a vehicle inspection. I spoke with Jason Phillips on the phone from Auto Appraise about my situation. Jason convinced me without a doubt based upon his years of experience and specific knowledge of this model of vehicle plus explaining his process of inspecting that he was very qualified. This vehicle was advertised as having the original motor, numbers matching car, so I opted to have Jason inspect that for me as well. Jason called me after his multiple hour inspection and gave me a brief rundown of my pre-purchase, numbers matching inspection. A few days later I received access to the website with over 350 high-resolution photos and his multiple pages written report of his inspection in 11 detailed sections. The engine block pad stamp did had a derivative of the VIN, yet through Jason's further analysis of the block casting date and engine suffix code, this motor was not offered in this model in addition the date was after the cowl tag build date. Ultimately, with the information and details Auto Appraise provided me, I opted not to purchase this car, yet as stated in their report, a nice example of a desirable muscle car. I had a follow up call with the seller and he informed me that Jason was a very professional inspector and spent much time and detail looking over his car. Even though I did not buy the car, this was money well spent. I have added a new network of expertise to my car collector portfolio that I plan to call again when the need arises, especially for any long distance inspections.
